Roles in Organisational Change

Home » Understanding Change » Roles in Organisational Change

During any change process, there are three roles that individuals take on:

Change Sponsor: Individuals or groups with the power to visualize and determine that a change will occur. In most organizations a change sponsor is usually upper level management

                                       The person initiating a change.

Change Agent: Individuals or groups responsible for seeing that a previously determined change occurs, normally the role of middle and lower level management.

The person whose job it is to implement the change.

Change Target
Individuals or groups who are asked to change something (knowledge, skill, attitude or behaviour). Usually employees.

The person who must learn new skills or is asked to undergo change.

Change Personalities

Are you a victim or a survivor? We've all heard that expression, but did you know you can be a navigator too?

A Victim: Feels threatened, panics or tries to avoid change and complains.

A Survivor: Accepts the changes, although may have negative feelings about the change and carries on with existing work effort, but will not make any extra contribution.

A Navigator: Welcomes the changes and will attempt to get some influence over events, they will compete with colleagues to get best out of changes.
